Bakers Benevolent Society
continues to
support retired industry professionals
Last week our Managing Director, David Amos was invited to visit the Bakers Benevolent Society, a charity which provides sheltered accommodation and financial support to retired members of the Baking Industry.
Supporting bakers since 1832, the society has around 40 residents living at Bakers’ Villas in Epping Essex, while supporting further retired beneficiaries with weekly charitable grants, the purchase of mobility aids and the purchase of household essential items.
Impacted by the cost of living and rising energy costs, many residents turn to the Bakers Benevolent Society in a place of challenge, while other residents and members have benefitted from being part of a community alongside like-minded bakers.
During his visit, David learned from Chairman of Trustees Chris Tomkins about how recent donations from The Baking Forum had helped fund the installation of a new fire protection system and further safety equipment at the home.
Zeelandia UK is proud to be a silver sponsor of The Baking Forum 2025 which will again donate from profits towards the charity.
Chris reiterated how they are reliant on the support of grants and donations from Bakers, Suppliers, and friends of the industry, with the Charity’s current fundraising plans focused on replacing an old cast iron boiler at the Villa, costing roughly £160,000.
David Amos, Managing Director, Zeelandia UK. “At Zeelandia UK, we are committed to supporting the UK baking industry wherever we can. It was an honour to visit the Bakers Benevolent Society, whose incredible work continues to support our baking professionals in retirement and beyond. We hope to build further awareness for the charity and will continue to support them in the future.”
