University student
undertakes “exciting” NPD
internship at Zeelandia
This summer, global ingredients manufacturer Zeelandia UK welcomed university student Kitty Glencross for a behind-the-scenes bakery internship.
Kitty, who is in the final year of her Bakery & Patisserie Technology degree at University College Birmingham, joined Zeelandia UK’s Colchester team as an NPD (New Product Development) Intern.
Kitty said: “This summer, I had the honour of spending three weeks working alongside Zeelandia’s NPD team in Colchester. As I approach the final year of my Bakery & Patisserie Technology degree at University College Birmingham, I am keen to explore areas of the bakery industry which interest me the most, one of those being new product development.
“Taking on an internship at Zeelandia was a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in NPD. I participated in a variety of exciting tasks and activities, such as testing existing Zeelandia products, developing new product concepts, meeting customers and suppliers, as well as attending the most recent Association of Bakery Ingredients Manufacturers (ABIM) Technical Committee meeting.
“It was a pleasure working with the team at Zeelandia, and I really appreciate having had this opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge whilst gaining more insight into the world of bakery NPD.”
Zeelandia UK is part of the global baking ingredients manufacturer Royal Zeelandia Group. Based at the Colchester Technical Centre, the NPD team provides product advice and tailor-made developments and solutions.
Andrew Taylor, NPD Manager at Zeelandia UK, said: “We were delighted to welcome Kitty to the NPD team for her internship. She contributed many great ideas and gained a lot of industry insight during her time here. It’s an honour to have the opportunity to teach and inspire the next generation of bakery specialists.”
